Salmon RCMP - Media Release

On March 13, 2024 at 6:59am Salmon Arm RCMP were advised of a two vehicle collision on Hwy 97B, just south of 10th Ave SE, Salmon Arm. On scene was an older Toyota Corolla in the northbound ditch, and a newer Ford F-150 parked on the southbound shoulder. The Ford F-150 was fully engulfed in flames.

Witness reports suggested that the Corolla was northbound, swerved into the southbound lane and collided with the F-150 in the southbound lane. The F-150 had no time to react. This was supported by a collision analyst that examined the scene. Visibility was extremely poor with thick fog blanketing the area. The driver of the Corolla was not wearing a seatbelt.

The 49 year-old male F-150 driver was able to exit the vehicle with assistance prior to it catching fire. The 23 year-old male driver of the Corolla was extricated by BC ambulance with assistance from by standers and police. The 23 year-old male driver of the Corolla was resuscitated on scene. Both drivers were transported to a local hospital. The 23 year-old male driver of the Corolla later died at hospital. His name is not being released out of respect to the family.

"Salmon Arm RCMP send their condolences to the 23 year-old driver’s family and friends. Police thank all the by-standers, BC Ambulance, Salmon Arm Fire Dept, and Salmon Arm Rescue Unit, for their assistance. This is a grim reminder to drive to conditions, wear your seatbelt, and focus on the road." stated Cst Andrew Hodges, Salmon Arm RCMP media liaison.
